hmm ... check this bug:
http://bugs.xmms.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1931
i'm not sure, if it is this, but maybe it is related ...

... maybe it has something to do with gtk or xorg, as i get similar trouble from time to time

The result is the same, but I can't say these bugs are correlated. You get segfault on an arbitrary time, while my case is only (and always) when accessing an mpc file. Even if I don't play anything, I just try to view file info on a mpc file, xmms segfaults.

Before the system upgrade, xmms never produced a segfault. Still, among those packages that were upgraded, I can't think of any package that could have something to do with xmms or musepack.

I found it! It's the glib2 package causing this! After donwgrading to glib2 2.4.7-1 xmms works flawlessly again. Due to dependencies I also have to keep old versions of pango, gtk2 and libglade.

Hope this helps and this bug gets resolved so I could upgrade also glib2, pango, gtk2 and libglade.

hmm ... it looks like an upstream bug of musepack with glib2
