Description:

Amarok cannot play files inside folders with accents in the name using iso-8859-1 (pt-BR) encoding.

This issue was found using pt_BR locale, but I believe it will happen with any directory with accents using any locale.

Additional info:
Amarok version 2.3.0-1

Steps to reproduce:
1. mount some partition with pt_BR.iso88591 locale
2. create some directory with accent in the name (e.g. Nação)
3. drop some .mp3 file inside that directory
3. try to play that file in amarok
This task depends upon

  • Field changed: Summary (Amarok issues with accents in directory names → [amarok] issues with accents in directory names)
  • Field changed: Status (Unconfirmed → Assigned)
  • Field changed: Category (Packages: Extra → Upstream Bugs)
  • Task assigned to Andrea Scarpino (BaSh), Tobias Powalowski (tpowa)
sounds like an upstream bug.
If it is not reported yet, you should report it on bugs.kde.org

Try to go to Settings -> Configure Amarok -> Collection, be sure that Enable character set detection in ID3 tags is checked (if not, check it), then rebuild your collection with Fully Rescan Entire Collection. That should fix it.
