A reference to my post on the Arch User Forums:

Short description:
I receive an IP-Address via DHCP on bootup from my wireless router, with my wireless lan interface (Intel Centrino 2200BG).

If i log in fast (console), i can ping out to the net (everywhere), so the network is up and works.

After about 30 secs, the network connection drops, and the interface (eth1) disappears of ifconfig. I i do "dhcpcd eth1" as a root, the interface goes up again, and works properly, without disappearing again.

I've tried with the newer ipw2200 driver as well (0.19 from the page, firmware as well), but still - the same problem.

It looks as if ifconfig drops the interface as if it doesn't get any information, even if the network is functional (as if i had no response from DHCP), and finally drops it therefore.
This task depends upon

i saw that you already updated to latest version and firmware on forum post
perhaps it's a bug in the driver
don't know i don't have such a hardware :(

Could be, still, ARCH is the only distribution (yet) i got the driver running properly in.

I'll wait for the next versions of the ipw2200 driver. Maybe this will fix it, if not i'll try to get help at the IPW2200 lists.

If this doesn't help, i'll open another report after the next 10 versions of IPW2200.
