i've installed kdepim-kmail and run it from konsole, it complains about akonadi server and fail to start. maybe just a missing dependencies. |

Works here. Try removing your akonadi data (~/.kde4/share/apps/akonadi*, ~/.config/akonadi, ~/.local/share/akonadi)
but that was under fvwm..
under kde i've just try and it runs..
sorry for the report, i've thought kmail could be run as standalone app, seems not..
anyway Thanks :)
