I do not know about acpid's upstream[1] status, the latest release was one year ago, but as far as I can see nothing big happened there since a while and it still uses a deprecated api[2].

There is now acpid2[3] which addresses the issue above and others. Fedora (devel - fc14)[4] and Debian (currently in testing)[5] already adopted it, so maybe Arch should switch too anytime soon.

Just noticed the aur package has not been mentioned yet. There is an acpid2 package in the AUR that can be used as drop-in replacement for acpi.
