The Awn Extras need the Python GStreamer bindings for the volume control to work. Or at least, that is what the official wiki tells. Since that package isn't in either the repo nor AUR, I send out this request to the all packagers. Especially the AWN maintainer. it actually is in extra (https://www.archlinux.org/packages/?q=gstreamer0.10-python). I'll add it to the package though :P
