DetailsThis is on an Acer Aspire 7730 laptop.
On approx. 50% of boots, the CPU fan jumps to full speed early in the boot sequence, and stays there. Other times, seemingly randomly, the system works correctly with automatic stepping of fan speed with CPU temperature. First mentioned in http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=91973 - apologies for not getting around to reporting anything further until now! dmesg from a boot with the 100% fan speed: http://pastebin.com/NYn8Uxa9 dmesg from a correct boot: http://pastebin.com/ykw5sJVq |

This appears to be fixed with kernel-2.6.34
