Please consider including a .desktop file for xmonad like this one:

$ cat /usr/share/applications/xmonad.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=Xmonad
Exec=xmonad
NoDisplay=true
X-GNOME-WMName=Xmonad
X-GNOME-Autostart-Phase=WindowManager
X-GNOME-Provides=windowmanager
X-GNOME-Autostart-Notify=false

This is needed to use xmonad in Gnome, according to http://www.haskell.org/haskellwiki/Xmonad/Using_xmonad_in_Gnome
