Description:
I have PDF files with Japanese text in them. Evince would display them correctly in the past. Now, evince does not display any Japanese text. Instead, there is white space where Japanese text should be. When starting evince from a terminal window, an error message says "Missing language pack for 'Adobe-Japan1' mapping". Additional info: According to what I have read in other forums, this affects both evince and kpdf, and probably anything else that depends on the package "poppler". Possible solution: The package "extra/poppler-data" is needed to display Asian fonts. If I install that package then Japanese fonts are displayed correctly. The package "evince" depends on "poppler-glib", which depends on "poppler", but nothing depends on "poppler-data". Consider adding "poppler-data" as a dependency for "poppler", or at least as an optional package. |

poppler-data is already an optdepend for poppler. It was changed
into an optdepend because of licensing issues (Adobe didn't allow
modification), but recently Adobe has released new files under a
free BSD-style license, so we can include it as dependency again.
