I've written a patch for initscripts that will allow a FASTBOOT option. This will load all daemons once the login screen is reached, not before. For a detailed explanation, see this thread: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?p=55738#55738

The link to the patch is on the thread. Should this be included in the official initscripts?

Cool, looks like a neat idea. I'll look at it soon when I get some time.

I think the patch from loserMcloser (http://www.istop.com/~r6dh7/bkgdDaemons.patch), is a better implementation of the system.

I agree, the new patch is a nicer system.

also consider to add an option to disable the update of shared links (ldconfig) at boot

I'll vote too. I am currently using the bkgdDaemons.patch on my system. I like the way it uses the [BKGD] in place of [BUSY]/[DONE]... also, the prefix works better with the arch style of checking for disabled daemons (the "!" character)....
Though the actual script should probably extract the prefix (first char) then run a case on it, rather than extracting it twice (once for "!" check and another for "@" check)
