Description:

I had a little discussion with the developer of Gajim because of an very annoying error pop-up. During this discussion he figured out that noteo isn’t standards compliant (i already wrote a bug report there) and – and that’s the important thing here – that Gajim has Gnomes notification daemon (it’s as notification-daemon 0.4.0-4 in extra) as explicit dependency.

Additional info:

* Gajim version 0.13.3-1

Steps to reproduce:

* Install and configure noteo
* Install and configure Gajim to use notifications
* Watch the dbus related error pup up
This task depends upon

they say:
"notification-daemon or notify-python (and D-Bus) to get cooler popups"

i'm tended to add notify-python as it has less dependencies. can you test with this? also i want to add this to optdepends rather to depends since README.txt is cataloging notifications as optional. what you think about that?

If it’s python-notify i’m testing it right now.

Oh, and yes: notification-daemon is waaaay too Gnome specific for me! Adding it as optional dependency would be enough, i guess.

Edit: If there isn’t anything more to do to get this python notification thing to work than installing it, it does not work with this.

Edit 2: A rather simple workaround is to disable the usage of a notification daemon by setting advanced option “use_notif_daemon” to false. This does not solve the bug itself nor the dependency problem, but it works for me (i’m getting notifications from Gajim now without any error pupups). I guess, adding “notofication-daemon” as optional dependency would be the best solution here.

did you have dbus-python installed too when testing python-notify?
