Description:

My laptop turns on alone. This happens to me since I installed Archlinux and updated it for the last time (27 or 29 of February 2010). I have Windows 7 installed too, I use grub.

If I turn the laptop off and push the power button for around two minutes, it doesn't happen again. If I start Windows 7, it doesn't happen again, but if I start Archlinux and turn off, it keeps turning on alone again.

I tried everything to fix it, it is not Bios related (Wake on by lan or wlan disable) (Bios actualized to the last version)

Thanks

Additional info:
* package version(s)
* config and/or log files etc.

Most actualized Archlinux system. My laptop is a Toshiba PRO L300.

Steps to reproduce:

Same as above

After you boot Arch and turn it off, how long before it turns itself back on? Is it basically right away, or is there a delay?
Comment by Víctor García Rodríguez (Falco313) - Thursday, 04 March 2010, 08:55 GMT
There is a delay that goes from 3-5 min to 20 or 30 minutes (20 or 30 just happen me once I think)

Thank you

I've found something like this:

For me it more looks like a hardware problem that is just triggered by Arch. Maybe BIOS update will help here?

[Edit]
I've found this bug interesting and read more:

It looks like the problem can be fixed by adding
acpi_osi="Linux"
to your boot parameters. Can you try this and report if it fixes the problem for you?

Others suggest to run 64bit version of linux on this laptop.

From the other hand: why would the bug manifest just now?

I managed to fix this weird behavior this morning thanks to you. I followed the steps, from the forum and blog, and it is not rebooting anymore. I got rid of the "omnibook" module and used the "acpi_osi="Linux" parameter in the kernel line of my grub. Fn keys are working too as well.

So, like you said, it seems to be a hardware problem triggered by "omnibook" (or just an omnibook bug), because now that I think of it, the problem started to happen me right after I loaded the omnibook module to get the fn keys working...

Thank you very much Paul and notch, you guys save my life :)

Heh, I didn't do much. Thanks notch for some good research!
