hi.
at looking at the new feature of the just released 2.6.33kernel, one can look at http://lwn.net/Articles/334649/ compressed cache mechanism.

It could allow to use a compressed swap and this way reduces signifcativly the memory needed to install archlinux.
I know pacman is quite hungry of memory, especially during the install. So, this feature could be a good thing. And not that hard to implement.
just run
swapon /dev/ramzswap0

Of course, improvement in memory usage is not garanted. [test needed ?]

I put it here as a feature request just to be sure it is not forgotten but i am quite sure the devs have already spotted that.
This task depends upon

Reason for closing:  Won't implement
Additional comments about closing:  This feature is still in staging. Anyway swap is active during detailed install process.

I will look on this, maybe some kernel command line parameter like "swap_zram_size=". Also this can be useful for current dm-snapshot implementation, where cow device can be a zram "cow_zram_size=". I need to do some tests.
