DetailsHello,
'phonon-xine' is actually listed as required dependency for 'minitube'. Today I installed minitube using the "-d" opton of pacman to do some testing. As I do not have installed anything of xine I wondered if the gstreamer-backend (which I have installed including phonon-gstreamer and the commercial fluendo bundle, which might be also substituted by free gstreamer-plugins) is sufficient or not. Everything is running fine. As far as I see 'minitube' does require _one_ phonon-backend. Gstreamer seems to be sufficient (as long as some gstreamer-codecs are installed of course). Therefore I suggest to change the dependeny of 'phonon-xine' to 'optional'. It might be a good idea for the user to decide which backend to use. I dont know if this is comparable to the 'java-case': If I want to use e.g. 'freemind' I do need a'java-runtime'. It doesn't matter if I've installed openjdk6 or SUN Java as runtime. Maybe something similiar fits here also: 'minitube' -> dependecy is 'phonon-backend-for-video' -> use 'phonon-gstreamer' OR 'phonon-sine' OR (maybe in future) 'phonon-vlc' So my major concern is simple: Why should I install another phonon-backend (in this case xine) if i do not need it (as gstreamer also does the job)? Thnak you! |

Reason for closing: Won't implement
Additional comments about closing: minitube is in AUR, if you have a problem with the package bring it up with its maintainer. The bugtrackers are for packages in official repos only.
