Additional comments about closing:  brought umfpack to [extra] and added it to optdepends/makedepends. should work with octave 3.2.4-1

what functionality does umfpack add?

I need it for LU decomposition of some large sparse matrices.

I can confirm that this PKGBUILD works. I think it can just be listed as a 'makedepends' and 'optdepends' as octave will run without umfpack installed even if built without the "--without-umfpack" configure option.

Is it ok to makedepend and optdepend on something from the 'community' repo?
