Description:
Description: when using cdcd 0.6.6-5 [extra] or mcdp 0.4a-3 [community] or adcd 1.0-1 [AUR], I can't get any sound. I can play the CD with mplayer or exaile. I have found another guy on IRC with that problem and another one in the forums http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=87058 so I really wonder if it's an issue with those players. it can't be hardware. in my case, I have a SATA TSSTcorp DVD+/-RW TS-H653B. I thought about the infamous digital audio cable that could be missing. but a google search made me think this cable is not needed anymore with SATA drive. is it libcdaudio that is too old to support SATA drives ? is it the kernel ? do you have any sound with any console player (except mpd may be) ? |

Reason for closing: Not a bug
Additional comments about closing: Hardware limitation, without analog audio cable, libcdaudio-based players won't play any sound.

libcdaudio uses analog playback features in CD-drives. This
requires the analog audio cable, which is no longer present on
most SATA drives. Players like mplayer do digital audio extraction
and play the result of that to your soundcard.
