Description:
When KMS is disabled and the KDE effects (in systemsettings) are enabled, KDE is terminated very often. For example, when I open the attached file just before it is opened with OO presentation, KDE closes. Second example, when you try to open "systemsettings" through the Kick-off menu, again KDE closes before it is opened (i try in the terminal and there if you write "systemsettings", there is no problem). Third example, when you start 'gtkperf' (the 2D perfomance tester, KDE again closes at some point of the tests (i think when "GtkDrawingArea - Lines" is started).

There is another thing. If KMS enabled, these problems do not appear but OO Presentation is unbearably slow (and the problem is partly fixed when you turn off Graphics hardware acceleration in the OO options).

Additional info:
* package version(s)
* config and/or log files etc.

xf86-video-ati 6.12.99.git20091207-1
local/kernel26 2.6.32.1-1 (base)
local/module-init-tools 3.11.1-1 (base)

Reason for closing:  Won't fix
Additional comments about closing:  Primary focus upstream is on KMS. UMS is breaking down more and more with every release. Switch to KMS instead.

Is this still an issue?

I can also duplicate this. It is still an issue.

Has this been reported upstream? Still a problem?
