DetailsWe currently have a default HTTP/FTP fetching method in place (sources). How about a bunch of default routines for SVN, GIT, CVS, HG, all that stuff? For example, cloning only the top revision of a given Git repo is more efficient than doing a whole checkout. Better than repeating ourselves in every -svn or -git package, I suggest these routines should be implemented in the most efficient manner in makepkg itself.

But you should first read the other 5 reports about this, starting from this one :
FS#16872I guess we should limit the number of vcs bugs opened, and close this one as duplicate.
If you think one of the other bugs is appropriate for this discussion, please move the discussion to the older bugs, and request closure for this one.
