I've just tested the new 2.6.32 kernel from testing, and the kernel fails to load the R300 microcode properly when KMS is on

the boot process hangs at

platform radeon_cp.0: firmware: requesting radeon/R300_cp.bin

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=550392 describes the same on debian

KMS on 2.6.31 works flawlessly

Does it load radeon from initramfs, or does it load it when "loading modules"? If it's loading radeon from initramfs, does the image actually include firmware?

It's loading it from initramfs I guess : I included the radeon module in the mkinitcpio config file. But I have no idea how to include any firmware in the initramfs. what am I supposed to do ?

Thanks for your help

ok. got it.

Including the firmware was indeed a good idea :-)

I used the hook proposed on aur http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=30070

maybe including it with mkinitcpio would be a good thing.
