Description:

My pc speaker stopped working after an xorg-server upgrade. The driver pcspkr is loaded, and the speaker works in console. I also compiled kernel with snd_pcsp, but with no success. The xterm can produce only visual bell, while other applications do beep, but the frequency/volume/durations can not be changed by the xset b command. I have Intel ICH5 card with Analog Devices AD1981B chip.

Additional info:

* package version(s)
kernel: stock 2.6.31.6-1
xorg-server: 1.7.1.901-2
* config and/or log files etc.
There are no error messages in log files

I can confirm this issue. Same package versions. Reverting to xorg-server-1.6.3.901-1 solves the problem.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the event itself passes. For instance, if I use xbelld from AUR to redirect the beep to the sound card, it works everywhere but xterm. Unfortunately, the ALSA driver does not support this capability natively.

@JGC
Thanks for the info. Should I request closure?
