Description:
When i installed KDE 4.3.3 i wanted to have search functionality in dolphin as well. Using "find path -name expression" was beginning to get irritating.. So i went to the system settings panel to enable desktop search. There is was enabled but strigi wasn't. The strigidaemon was running (ps ux | grep strigidaemon showed that) and running strigiclient showed files being indexed. However when typing anything at all in the dolphin search bar i get 0 results..

A person from the KDE irc channel told me this might be the case: "maybe your distro didn't package the backed right or something"

Additional info:
* package version(s)
KDE 4.3.3

* config and/or log files etc.
Screenshot fine as well? http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/3553/nepomuk.png

Steps to reproduce:

Install KDE: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/KDE
Enable nepomuk AND strigi in the system settings as shown in the screenshot
Try to search for anything in dolphin using the search bar.

Do you have openjdk6 installed?
Comment by Mark (markg85) - Thursday, 19 November 2009, 15:35 GMT
Nope.

Don't tell me i need freaking JAVA to search...

Did just install it and it didn't seem to help a bit.

Odd, now it works.. after a system reboot!
What i changed:
- added strigidaemon to kde autostart applications
- installed openjdk6
- Set strigi and nepomuk to enabled

I'm going to test right now if it still works when i remove openjdk6 as i don't want any slowish java crap on my system.

I think step 2 and 3 should be enough to get it working. Adding strigi to autostart shouldn't be needed. And yes, strigi does not work without openjdk6.

How sad.. openjdk6 is required.. oke, then that's probably missing in the kdebase-runtime PKGBUILD file.

No, there were too many complains about having a dependency to openjdk6. So that's an optdepends now and strigi is disabled by default. (it's not really usable anyway)

Oke. I keep it on for a while to test it out.
Btw, thanx for your suggestion as that was the jackpot in my case ^_^
