DetailsDescription:
First off, I'm from Sweden so my English my be a little off, sorry for that! When Xorg-server was upgraded to Xorg-server xorg-server-1.7.1.901-2 I lost the ability to use the cursor on both monitors in my dualscreen setup. The primary monitor works just fine. But when I drag the cursor over to the secondary screen htop shows that one core goes to 100%. If i quickly drag the mouse back to the primary monitor the system often starts to respond again, and the cpu goes back into the normal procentage. If I don't drag the cursor back quickly enough then the system will become inresponable. Problebly just the Xorg-server. I can still use ssh to acess the system. However, I can not kill the Xorg-server. That might be user related though. Other times when I try to move the cursor over to the secondary monitor, the cursor flys over to the other side of the primary monitor. If I click on the left mouse button (I'm right handed) realy fast at the same time I'm moving the cursor over to the secondary monitor. The cursor starts blinking on the secondary monitor when pressing button. Yet again, if I don't drag the cursor back to the primary monitor, the system will do the same as before, become inresponsible. The second monitor works in any other way. I belive that it is the Xorg-server that's broken, I could however be wrong. I have updated but haven't rebooted my system in 14 days and therefore it could have been some other package that's broken. Everyting points towards the Xorg-server. I'm using the Nvidia 190.42 driver together with xorg-server-1.7.1.901-2 on the 2.6.31-ARCH kernel. I'm using Openbox. My system (relvant parts): AMD X2 4200+ Asus A8N-SLI Premium Gainward Nvidia 7800GTX Golden Sample Logitech MX510 (Might show up in Xorg.0.log) Logitech UltraFlat X (Might show up in Xorg.0.log) My /etc/X11/xorg.conf ----------------------------------------------- Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "BENQ" ModelName "G2200W" HorizSync 31.0 - 83.0 VertRefresh 55.0 - 76.0 EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor1" VendorName "BENQ" ModelName "G2200W" HorizSync 31.0 - 83.0 VertRefresh 55.0 - 76.0 EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" Device "Configured Video Device" Monitor "Configured Monitor" Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True" DefaultDepth 24 EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Device0" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth 24 Option "TwinView" "0" Option "TwinViewXineramaInfoOrder" "CRT-0" Option "metamodes" "CRT-0: nvidia-auto-select +0+0" Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True" SubSection "Display" Depth 24 EndSubSection EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen1" Device "Device1" Monitor "Monitor1" DefaultDepth 24 Option "TwinView" "0" Option "metamodes" "CRT-1: nvidia-auto-select +0+0" SubSection "Display" Depth 24 EndSubSection EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Logitech HID compliant keyboard" # Identifier "UltraFlatX" Driver "evdev" Option "Device" "/dev/input/by-path/pci-0000:00:02.1-usb-0:1.2.2:1.0-event-kbd" # Xkblayout "se" # Option "xkb_rules" "evdev" Option "xkb_rules" "xorg" # Option "xkb_model" "evdev" # Option "xkb_layout" "se" # Option "xkb_layout" "sv-latin1" Option "XkbLayout" "se" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse" # Identifier "MX510" Driver "evdev" Option "CorePointer" # Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "Device" "/dev/input/by-id/usb-Logitech_USB-PS_2_Optical_Mouse-mouse" Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2" Option "Buttons" "10" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true" EndSection Section "Module" Load "dbe" Load "extmod" # Load "type1" # Load "freetype" Load "glx" EndSection Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Layout0" Screen 0 "Screen0" 1680 0 Screen 1 "Screen1" LeftOf "Screen0" InputDevice "Logitech HID compliant keyboard" "CoreKeyboard" InputDevice "Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse" "CorePointer" Option "AllowEmptyInput" "false" EndSection Section "Extensions" Option "Composite" "Enable" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Device0" VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation" BoardName "GeForce 7800 GTX" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" Screen 0 Driver "nvidia" Option "NoLogo" "True" Option "RenderAccel" "true" Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "True" Option "DisableGLXRootClipping" "True" Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True" # Option "AGPFastWrite" "true" # Option "EnablePageFlip" "true" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Device1" VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation" BoardName "GeForce 7800 GTX" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" Screen 1 Driver "nvidia" Option "NoLogo" "True" Option "RenderAccel" "true" Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "True" Option "DisableGLXRootClipping" "True" Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True" # Option "AGPFastWrite" "true" # Option "EnablePageFlip" "true" EndSection Section "ServerFlags" Option "Xinerama" "1" Option "DontZap" "false" Option "AutoAddDevices" "True" EndSection ----------------------------------------------- My /var/log/Xorg.0.log ----------------------------------------------- X.Org X Server 1.7.1.901 (1.7.2 RC 1) Release Date: 2009-11-6 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 Build Operating System: Linux 2.6.31-ARCH i686 Current Operating System: Linux Linnea 2.6.31-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Nov 10 19:48:17 CET 2009 i686 Kernel command line: root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/06ad0ee5-2b79-4f17-966d-eb4436025e9b ro Build Date: 08 November 2009 04:12:47PM Current version of pixman: 0.16.2 Before reporting problems, check http://wiki.x.org to make sure that you have the latest version. What was the last version working fine for you?
Please post any result on the upgrade to 1.7.3-1!
Update: Actually it got worse. Formerly, X just crashed and got restarted by my display mgr. Now it freezes. (Loging on to the box via still worked, though.)
I'm currently testing
xorg-server 1.7.3.902-1
nvidia 190.53-1
and what i see is:
I can't move the mouse pointer to the second screen. What i see instead is a flickering effect: when constantly moving the mouse, the pointer gets drawn up to about 2cm into the screen, give or take a few mm...
so far no crash.
I think this bug is related to this one on Xorg bug tracker:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24986
for xorg-server on this bug ticket https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24986
After aplying this patch the bug is gone. I don't know if this patch was or will be integrated to xorg mainline.
