FS#1706 - udev 042-1 with kernel 2.6.9 not adding symlinks via udev.rules

Sorry to have raised this as a bug. I was able to find the solution in the Udev How-to: the udev.rules modifications should be placed in a file (such as 00-myudev.rules). I've done just this and everything works as advertised. (On the other hand, just placing the new rules in udev.rules worked fine before, but that may have been just dumb luck.)
