"alsactl restore" gives the following error

alsactl: set_control:892: bad control.12.value type

This happens sometimes when you upgrade your kernel, it happened to me once. To fix this redo your alsactrl config and store it.

This is most likely because the alsa mixer got some upgrades for your driver in 2.6.10
