Reasoning:
1) jack-audio-connection-kit is a really long name
2) by the devlopers and in the jack using community it is refered to as just jack
3) pretty much everyone gets annoyed by the long name
4) There aren't many reasons not to rename it (that I can think of)
5) The only software with a conflicting name I know of is: http://www.home.unix-ag.org/arne/jack/
which is in no arch repo (not even AUR) and had no release in 5 years

Technical:
I'm not sure whether replaces=() or provides=() is the more appropriate way to achieve backward compatibility with the old name.

This task depends upon

the sourceforge name of the project is jackit. I once proposed that name and it was turned down by other developers as well as the community.

The sf url is the only thing refering to it as jackit, I never heard of it before and didn't even know a sf page exists.
I'd have turned down the name jackit as well, simply because no-one uses it.

The homepage URL is http://jackaudio.org/.
Bug tracking and the like is done on http://trac.jackaudio.org/.
The name to use is just "jack".

From  FS#15102 :

"Anyway upstream actually doesn't have a consensus about naming (as long as it has jack as part of it). There used to be a FAQ entry on this, in which they said it didn't matter. So currently only the tarball is named jack-audio-connection-kit, along with the /usr/share/ dir. I suggested a rename purely because of consistency (since jack2 is coming into the picture soon), and also that we have no reason to not shorten the name length aside from the fact that you'll have to use $replaces and ammend all other related packages to depend on the new name. So it's up to you, tobias."

So this gets my vote :)
