DetailsDescription: CUPS 1.4.1-1 does not recognize Epson Stylus usb printer, so the printer cannot be added.
Additional info: * package version(s) 1.4.1-1 * config and/or log files etc. # lsusb ... Bus 003 Device 002: ID 04b8:0841 Seiko Epson Corp. # dmesg after unplugging and then reinserting the printer plug: usb 3-1: USB disconnect, address 2 usb 3-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3 usb 3-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice This is a new arch install with a gnome desktop. Cups accessed via localhost:631 does not list the usb printer as a new printer. There are many reports about problems with the latest cups upgrade in the forums. So there are actually two issue here: 1. upstream cups is broken. 2. the info on the archlinux.org site is insufficient: for many people blacklisting usblp and starting with a fresh cups.conf file is not enough. I would instead suggest a message like "for people concerned about stability check the forums, in particular the testing forum, for reported issues before upgrading." Steps to reproduce: |
