Description: CUPS 1.4.1-1 does not recognize Epson Stylus usb printer, so the printer cannot be added.

Additional info:
* package version(s) 1.4.1-1
* config and/or log files etc.

# lsusb
...
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 04b8:0841 Seiko Epson Corp.

# dmesg after unplugging and then reinserting the printer plug:

usb 3-1: USB disconnect, address 2
usb 3-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3
usb 3-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

This is a new arch install with a gnome desktop. Cups accessed via localhost:631 does not list the usb printer as a new printer.

There are many reports about problems with the latest cups upgrade in the forums. So there are actually two issue here:
1. upstream cups is broken.
2. the info on the archlinux.org site is insufficient: for many people blacklisting usblp and starting with a fresh cups.conf file is not enough. I would instead suggest a message like "for people concerned about stability check the forums, in particular the testing forum, for reported issues before upgrading."

Steps to reproduce:

One more thing: after downgrading everything works again.

[2009-10-18 15:06] upgraded libcups (1.4.1-1 -> 1.3.11-1)
[2009-10-18 15:06] upgraded cups (1.4.1-1 -> 1.3.11-1)
[2009-10-18 15:06] upgraded ghostscript (8.70-2 -> 8.70-1)

Arch will always force you to more interaction as other distros. All solutions are given in our wiki and forums. Your bugreport doesn't help anyone. And the tracker is not for personal support.

Cups is neither broken upstream nor packages in a bad way. Closing this useless report.
