Description: VIM does not interface with the X11 clipboard like it should. Just about every other that displays text in Arch supports highlight-to-copy. VIM is capable of doing this with the proper compilation options.

Additional info:
* vim 7.2.266-1

Steps to reproduce:
1) Highlight anything in vim
2) Attempt a middle-click paste in some other application.

Solution:
Enable the clipboard option when building vim. I think all that is needed is to add --enable-clipboard to the ./configure command in the PKGBUILD.

Reason for closing:  Won't fix
Additional comments about closing:  X11 features are available from the vim binary that comes with gvim

when you install gvim on top of vim, the actual vim binary becomes more powerful and has more options. If you intend to use vim mainly from an X based environment you should install gvim, you don't have to use the gvim binary which is a symlink anyways.

Please add this feature.

Installing gvim is an easy fix though.

I use vim 7.2.266-1, stock version. I can highlight-paste to/from vim w/ no problem.
Maybe you should check your .vimrc settings.

Installing gvim is a solution to the problem I posted above. I concur that compiling x11-specific options into vim isn't appropriate for environments that don't include x11. Thanks, Tobias.

I don't have gvim installed and copy-on-highlight works.

[karol@black ~]$ vim --version
VIM - Vi IMproved 7.2 (2008 Aug 9, compiled Sep 30 2009 20:12:33)
Included patches: 1-266
Compiled by ArchLinux
Big version without GUI. Features included (+) or not (-):
< SNIP >
+windows +writebackup -X11 -xfontset -xim -xsmp
-xterm_clipboard -xterm_save

replying to karols post, I also didn't have gvim installed and x11 copypasta worked. (highlight with mouse and paste with middle click)
