Additional comments about closing: the two patches i merged in one big patch. i remember that i did that in the first instance but don't know how i missed it.

performing import gdl in python, you still will have exceptions. Please refer to my comments on https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=584126 - I posted additional patch there
