Details

The package python-lxml (2.2.2) from community repo is currently not working.

The parsers are returning incorrect or non data, you can run this simple tests taken from the lxml project page: http://dpaste.org/9zOr/ and http://dpaste.org/t9uN/. Their expected output is in Target parser and iterparse sections of this page
http://codespeak.net/lxml/parsing.html as you can see neither result is the expected.

Also, the python-lxml package can't be build using PKGBUILD from ABS, due to a setuptools bug in Python 2.6.3, to make it build first you have to replace setuptools by distribute and that will make it work.

If you install the package with easy install the tests pass and everything works ok. I've tried upping the versions of libxml2 and lixslt (they're quite old) but haven't got good results.

If you need more information on this bug don't hesitate to ask.

I moved to [extra] python-lxml. I notice only now this bug, is it still present in 2.2.3?

The bug is still present in 2.2.3-2

did you try this on some other distro?
Comment by Ismael Carnales (void) - Sunday, 22 November 2009, 22:57 GMT
Yup, in Ubuntu works fine, and if you install lxml with Distribute in arch also works (I was unable to install it with easy_install due to another bug)

Just tried the examples that didn't work for you, and both worked for me. (showed the expected output)
I also successfully built python-lxml from abs/extra and retried the scripts and got the right output.

python 2.6.4-1
python-lxml 2.2.4-1
