Details

Description:

On one of my computers pretty much all KDE applications fail to load, this doesn't include KDM, but the login dialog/screen for KDE does fail to load, only the Xserver starts up. I can't run kde applications locally or via X11 forwarding either way I get the following error:

dolphin: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libkdeui.so.5: undefined symbol: _ZNK6Sonnet66Sonnet6

Non-kde applications (tested TWM, glxgears, arora, and firefox) seem un-affected. Also, my laptop, with mostly the same packages seems to be doing just fine, except for the printer-applet, this, however, is likely related to the pyqt bug already reported.

Additional info:
* package version(s) are in the attached files; basically it's the 4.3.2 release for i686. I have no x86-64 capable hardware to test, so this may or may not be a cross platform problem. "Nibbler" runs OK (packages are in pkglistNibbler.txt"), "Bender" has problems (package list in "pkglistBender.txt").

* config and/or log files etc.
I don't see anything interesting in any of my log files, but if you think one of them would be helpful I"ll provide it.

* Hardware Info:

The computer has an athlon XP processor, runs the i686 Arch, has an NForce2 chipset motherboard w/ no onboard graphics and has a PCI cirrus logic graphics card. I have no idea why this would matter, but if anyone can think of more info that would be helpful let me know.pac

Steps to reproduce:

try and start any KDE application on my desktop.
This task depends upon

I think the problem is, quite likely with the kdelibs 4.3.2-3 package; I have this version of the kdelibs on "Bender" and nibbler, while running mostly the same package verions, is still runing kdelibs 4.3.2-2

The problem is definitely the kdelibs 4.3.2-3 package, I've downgraded and at least konqueror works via ssh tunneling.

  • Field changed: Summary (All KDE applications fail to load → [kdelibs] All KDE applications fail to load)
  • Field changed: Status (Unconfirmed → Waiting on Response)
  • Task assigned to Andrea Scarpino (BaSh), Pierre Schmitz (Pierre)
and what about with 4.3.2-4?

The issue seems resolved in KDE 4.3.2-4; at the very least I can login again (via XDMCP or locally) and run konsole and systemsettings, so things look good, so far. Many thanks to the maintaingers for the blindingly fast turn around on these KDE 4.3.2 packages.
