Description:
avidemux 2.5.1-1 can't initialize ALSA audio device.

If I open an mpg file in avidemux 2.5.1-1 and click onto the play button I get a window with the message: "Trouble initializing audio device". After clicking onto the "Ok" button, the video is played but without sound.

I've got an M-Audio Audiophile 24/96, which is running with the ALSA kernel module snd-ice1712.
I'm using kernel26 2.6.30.6-1 resp. kernel26-fbcondecor 2.6.30.6-1, which are generally the same except of the fbcondecor patch.

ALSA is working perfectly with this card and with other audio software.

No problems here with both gtk+ and qt version. (snd-emu10k1 custom kernel)

Eric, have you, too, chosen alsa as audio device in avidemux or have you chosen arts or esd?

I have the same problem. I thought it was a configure issue on my system as noone has complained about it yet. Do you also get this error message in the terminal?
[Alsa] Using device :dmix
[Alsa]Error setting format.

I also get these error messages. I haven't found an error message (in the long output) in the terminal before, but now I can find these error messages, too.

I just wanted to use avidemux and have the same console error messages as Eric and also the "Trouble Initializing..." message. Needless to say that there is no sound when playing back video. If there is anything I can do to help fix this problem (like providing logs, testing etc..) let me know.

For reference, seems to be an upstream bug, have a look here: http://avidemux.org/admForum/viewtopic.php?id=6739

This bug is still present, no fixes/work-arounds yet?

I used the attached PKGBUILD and fix-alsa.patch to compile a version which is hardcoded to the default alsa device. Its not really pretty but it works for me (the other files/patches referenced in the PKGBUILD should be in abs)

It's fixed in the avidemux packages in testing.
Notes:
- the GUI have been split from the package. for gtk: install avidemux-gtk. for qt: install avidemux-qt.
- they are built against the ffmpeg/x264 in testing.
