Fresh install using archlinux-2009.08-netinstall-i686.iso, following the wiki Beginners Guide. After installing xorg I see in /etc/skel some odd file permissions

/etc/skel/.xinitrc
/etc/skel/.xsessionrc

Both files are 775 (-rwxr-xr-x)

It seems that they should be at most 644

The same permissions are specified in xorg-xinit's PKGBUILD (the package that both files belong to).

Nothing to worry about, I believe. :)

Just because the bug is upstream doesn't make it non interesting.

Those permissions are incorrect and should be fixed.

Anyway, reported upstream at: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24284

meh, ignore my previous comment.

foutrelis comment miss-lead me to believe that the issue was not part of Arch.

Anyway, the issue remains, and looks like it is a problem with Arch's xorg-xinit PKGBUILD.

Perms are correct (755) for both files that are shell script. These files are copied as-is with useradd -m.

These are shell scripts or configuration files? I do not believe they are intended to be executed.
