Forgot to say that this is on x86_64, if this make a difference, since there is a specific package for openoffice-base in x86_64.

en_US pkg is the localization of the user interface not for spell checking. It's the same langpack as preset in the base OOo pkg. that's why openoffice-en_US is simply obsolete and probably all files will cause file conflicts. I may remove it for the next OOo release.
