texlive-core 2009.14682-1
is missing amsalpha.bst and amsplain.bst

These files belong to AMStex which is included in texlive-core, they are also present in the texlive tree, but they are not installed.

This is an upstream problem. Those two files are not in the latest TL database:
ftp://tug.org/texlive/tlnet/tlpkg/texlive.tlpdb.xz

I reported to the TeXLive mailings list, this is the answer I received from "Karl Berry" <karl@freefriends.org>:

in the new version of tex-live the ams bibtex files
especially amsplain.bst and amsalpha.bst are missing.

They are in the amsrefs package now. In the svn tree, they exist;
texmf-dist/bibtex/bst/amsrefs/amsalpha.bst
texmf-dist/bibtex/bst/amsrefs/amsplain.bst

not contained in ftp://tug.org/texlive/tlnet/tlpkg/texlive.tlpdb.xz

You are right that they are missing from the texlive.tlpdb under tlnet.
Very scary. We will fix the bug, wherever it is, and do still more
consistency checking. Glad you noticed.
