The package gnome-python 2.6.0-2 has not been compiled properly and consequently does not seem to have the following modules:

gnome.ui
gnome.vfs
bonobo
bonobo.activation

bonobo.ui
gnome.applet
nautilus

This has been reported outside of Arch Linux (apparently with some regularity) in various forms. For example, it is apparently not that rare for applications relying on gnome-python to not find gnome.ui when the pyorbit package has not been compiled BEFORE gnome-python has:

"ImportError: No module named gnome.ui

The most common reason for missing gnome.ui module is that there was no py-orbit available when you compiled or installed gnome-python.

So as a solution you need to install py-orbit first and after that recompile and reinstall gnome-python."

In confirmation of this, I followed this suggestion using ABS and re-compiled pyorbit and then gnome-python:

makepkg pyorbit
pacman -U pyorbit

makepkg gnome-python
pacman -U gnome-python

After this, I was able to my Python application (Gramps) without any problems.

Hi Arjan.

I've just downloaded and installed gnome-python-2.6.0-3 and this version works with Gramps. There is no "missing gnome.ui" message.

I don't have any tests for the accessibility of other missing modules.

Best Regards,

Win
