will cause trouble with prefixed daemons (!@) and stuff like dbus which doesn't have to be in the DAEMONS array as hal starts it.

I added half of this patch already (the missing [@] syntax)

As for the actual implementation - I'd like to propose this (I also reindented the function while I was at it):
