wget can use make use SSL connections, by default however it doesn't know where to check them against. ca-certificates is provided by ''core'', so I think it should be used everywhere. A simple addition to the already existing /etc/wgetrc would fix this issue: ca-directory = /etc/ssl/certs |

Without this option Wget looks for CA certificates at the system-specified locations, chosen at OpenSSL installation time.
So it looks like this should be automatically detected...
