It would be nice to see Mozilla-Firefox and probably Thunderbird for those who use it in the GNOME menu.

give us .desktop files and it will apear.
these applications do not use the freedesktop standard yet.
we can't set the mime-type or menu items.

Can't you just create desktop files yourself?
I just used the right click options in the menu to add launcher, but it would be nice if these were available on install, including mime types.

well lets see how many X packages are there, hmmm couple hundreds.
would be a hell of a job. if you provided them we will add them.

Xentac has been discussing this and the possibility of using something based off of Debian's menu program... he should be added to this discussion.

The new mozilla packages posted today mostly do the job. The only little thing: the .desktop file for thunderbird doesn't correctly link to the icon file. Once this is OK, the bug can be closed.

new packages add the icons, but they refer to binaries that are not present.

That can be fixed by a symlink on /usr/bin
