Description:

Gold is an alternative to ld, rewritten in C++ for performance, that shows vast
performance improvements over ld:

Unfortunately, it is part of the binutils. Rebuilding the binutils seems a bit
perilous for a mere mortal like me, so it would be nice if gold was compiled
and available by default in Arch.

My opinions have not changed on this. I believe GOLD is not ready for the prime time yet, so until the binutils devs provide a way to build both and then be able pick which one is to be used (environmental variable?), this is not going to happen.
