like the topic says - options are not passed to the actual binary.
do mozilla-firefox --help and a new window will openup with --help as the URL

similarly all oprions like the -remote command and all stuff.

edit: it happens only when an instance of firefox is running.

i think this problem is because if the very poorly written mozilla-firefox shell script.
Take a look at the script provided in the binary installer package provided by mozilla.org
