xchat crashes when transparent background enable

I found a patch here: https://svn.pardus.org.tr/pardus/playground/burak/applications/network/xchat/files/xchat-2.8.4-shm-pixmaps.patch

Applied and compiled with abs, looks fine.. :)

Steps to reproduce:
settings -> preferences -> Transparent background

When setting the Transparent background, I get this message:
"Unable to set transparent background!

You may be using a non-compliant window
manager that is not currently supported."

and it doesn't crash (background isn't transparent though). What WM/setup are you using? I tried in both fvwm and kde.

I use gnome 2.26.3 without composition enabled
