rar, txt, etc

for example: https://launchpad.net/codeofconduct/1.0.1/+download

there's a bug related here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/239952

the attached xulrunner patch solves the issue. i tested it in firefox 3.0.x and firefox 3.5

"open" works fine here, in my case the last application is executed. Also tested in "firefox -safe-mode" to avoid loading extensions.

firefox-3.0.11-1-i686

should be because you selected by hand an application to open the file before. try to remove/rename the file $HOME/.mozilla/firefox/mimeTypes.rdf to restore the default applications and try with de default option.

In this case, shows a dialog that application selected "null" to open the file does not exist, so select the correct.

here, on a clean gnome user, shows "Text Editor (default)", which is gedit, but it fails to open showing the error described before.

firefox uses the file /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache, created by update-mime-database, to get the default applications

Broken here. Firefox tries to open https://launchpad.net/codeofconduct/1.0.1/+download with gvim but show the error from the description.
