Clicking a download link, and selecting "open" with the default option in the dialog, firefox fails to open the file and displays the following error: /tmp/filename.ext could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences. Additional info: * package version(s): xulrunner 1.9.0.11-1, firefox 3.0.11-1 * desktop environment: gnome 2.26.2 x86_64 tested also on a i686 computer, with fluxbox Steps to reproduce: - click a download link - select open, with the default option - click ok - the error should be displayed now. |

the attached xulrunner patch solves the issue. i tested it in firefox 3.0.x and firefox 3.5
"open" works fine here, in my case the last application is executed. Also tested in "firefox -safe-mode" to avoid loading extensions.

should be because you selected by hand an application to open the file before. try to remove/rename the file $HOME/.mozilla/firefox/mimeTypes.rdf to restore the default applications and try with de default option.
firefox uses the file /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache, created by update-mime-database, to get the default applications
