several of these programs now appear to be broken. I assume the problem is not so much within the id3lib package itself, but one of its dependencies

Yea, those aren't fatal errors, but it will need a rebuild under gcc 3.4.2. I'm closing this bug and dropping a note on #1399, our infamous "GCC 3.4.2" bug.
