DetailsI have no entry in /etc/fstab for the optical unit. I inserted a CD whose label had some spaces and some dots (I do not know whether these data are relevant). I mounted the CD via the "devices recently plugged in" of KDE4, I assume it will use hal to mount... The CD was mounted on /media/(label of the CD).
Then I tried to copy a file from the CD into the hard drive, but after a few KB I got "Input/output error" on the console. When I tried to copy via Dolphin, I got "unable to read file" (or something similar). dmesg showed some errors in some "block devices" (I do not have them because X froze and I had to reboot :-( ). Nevertheless, when I mounted the CD by hand: # mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /media/cd mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only then I could correctly copy the file and then execute the copied file. |

In OpenSuse 11.2, with hal 0.5.13-4.1, I mounted that CD with the "devices recently plugged in" of KDE4, and I compared the file in the CD with the (good, "real") copy in the hard drive. Both cmp (in the console) and kompare (in KDE) reported that the two files were identical.
