DetailsAll GNOME-associated icons are replaced by an icon with an x in the middle as seen in this screenshot
http://members.rogers.com/jrutley/gnome-error.png There is no desktop background, and the desktop context menu is gone as well. After I closed down X, I noticed a bunch of "could not load icon" and GTK+ messages. I can provide those if someone can tell me how to capture them. At the moment I'm logging in through vc/1 and typing "startx" to get into GNOME. |

Try rebuilding librsvg from abs and your problem should be over.
I noticed as well that the desktop icons were missing -- it's as though the /home/username/Desktop folder didn't get loaded.
After upgrading to 2.8, my background was still black (until I changed it with Desktop Preferences->Desktop Background) but the icons are still not present on the desktop, and there is still no context menu when you right-click, which is the same behaviour as 2.6.
At some time between going for lunch and coming back, everything is back to normal.
