Development moved to BMPx which doesnt seem actively developed anymore either, last release is more than a year ago.
Now development seems to have moved again to another project called audiosource, or mpx http://mpx.backtrace.info/
BMP has a relatively high usage according to pkgstats, ~5.5%, more than BMPx.
Source for all of these is available here: http://files.backtrace.info/releases/
Some additional info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMPx
PS. Even Debian/Ubuntu doesnt seem to have BMP in its repos anymore
