Summary and Info:
One of the only things I miss about apt-get is the ETA it provides as it downloads a package. While this may seem inconsequential for small packages, it's nice to see how far you are along while downloading, say OpenOffice or KDE (not just how far you are along downloading the current file). I often find myself looking at the total download size and summing up the size of files already downloaded to get an estimate of total progress; it seems like pacman could do this automatically. In the bottom-right hand corner of the console, apt-get displays your current average download speed, and an estimated ETA to finish all necessary downloads. Personally, I think that a total % of all downloads complete combined with an estimated ETA would be better than displaying the average download speed and ETA, since you can already see how fast the individual files are downloading, but this is a matter of preference. I'd really like to see this feature in pacman =). |
