Details

Today when a upgraded my system I got this

sudo pacman -S lirc
resolving dependencies...
error: cannot resolve "lirc-utils=0.8.5pre2", a dependency of "lirc"
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: lirc: requires lirc-utils=0.8.5pre2

The output of pacman -Ss lirc is

extra/lirc 0.8.5pre2-1 [0.08 MB]
Linux Infrared Remote Control kernel modules for stock arch kernel
extra/lirc-utils 0.8.5-1 [0.38 MB]

This is already updated, your pacman database is outdated just run pacman -Sy then try again.

on both 32 and 64:

$ pacman -Ss lirc
extra/lirc 0.8.5-1
Linux Infrared Remote Control kernel modules for stock arch kernel
extra/lirc-utils 0.8.5-1
Linux Infrared Remote Control utils
