Is there any reason that pygtk is not compiled with thread support by default?

If there isn't, please add the "--enable-threads" option to the configure line. I believe more users would find this beneficial.

Threads are enabled by default, no need to pass a configure switch for that.
configure:11819: checking for python module thread
configure:11845: result: yes
configure:11918: checking whether to enable threading in pygtk
configure:11923: result: yes
